ADB LOAN No. SRI 39431 – 01 Colombo Port Expansion Project – Construction Supervision Phase

  • Dredging of port approach channels in mostly sands and silty sands to a depth of 20m. Dredged materials is to be used in reclamation with an estimated volume of 13.6 million
  • Breakwater of approximately 5 Km length with the majority in water depths in excess of 15m. The core is formed from sand arising from the dredging operations and the breakwater is armored with rock and concrete armor units and capped with a concrete wave wall. It is backed by partial reclamation and a beach;
  • Construction of a secondary breakwater with small boat harbor. The breakwater is approximately 1 Km long and encloses a small boat harbor with 400m of pre-cast concrete block quay wall. Onshore buildings include a marine operation centre, control tower and accommodation for pilots and crew;
  • A new 36” submarine pipeline of approximately 6km length, laid in trench with one on shore connection and one underwater connection to the existing pipeline. Where the pipe line crosses the main navigation channel it is to be buried in a deep trench with top of pipe at 26.0m    
  • Construction of road access, drainage and utility services to the newly constructed facilities and other onshore works including a number of small buildings
