It is proposed to construct a storm water pumping station at the downstream of existing lock gate at St. Sebastian South Canal, in order to enhance the outflow capacity of the Colombo canal system by creating an additional outfall, it has been decided to construct a pumping station to pump out stormwater from St. Sebastian South Canal to Beira Lake. The maximum pumping discharge thus expected to achieve is 10 m3/s. The proposed location for the Pumping Station is downstream of existing lock gates which is located between the Olcott Mawatha Bridge and Maradana Road Bridge in the premises of Sri Lanka Ports Authority, on the right bank of St. Sebastian South Canal. The canal stretch included in the package runs from Adhikarana Mawatha Bridge up to Olcott Mawatha Bridge, and the approximate length of this stretch is 480m
It is proposed to construct a storm water pumping station at Technical Junction, Maradana across St. Sebastian South Canal, in order to mitigate the floods by pumping flood water from the canal into Beira Lake during periods of high rainfall in Colombo Basin.
The capacity of this pumping station is 10 m3/s, comprising of 2 Nos. of 5m3/s pumps.
Main scope of this sub project includes ;
- Rehabilitation of existing gates.
- Construction of new pumping station and installation of pumps with screens and other mentioned equipment.
- Bank protection works.
- Dredging of canal.
