The expected project impact is to ensure a more-healthier nation in four of the less privilegedprovinces in the country by supporting a more responsive and comprehensive primary health care system in Sri Lanka. The project intends to strengthen primary health care (PHC) services in the Provinces of Central (Kandy, Matale and NuweraEliya), Sabaragamuwa (Ratnapura and Kegalle), Uva (Badulla and Moneragala) and North Central (Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa) with a special focus on the socially, economically and geographically disadvantaged populations. The PHC services are defined as primary health care services that are provided via Curative level facilities (Primary Medical Care Units (PMCUs) and the Divisional Hospitals (DHs)), and via the preventive health service network led by the Medical Officers of Health.
