Government of Sri Lanka has requested ADB to support the preparation of a Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) for the ColomboTrincomalee Economic Corridor (CTEC) which will link the periphery of Colombo in the west with Kurunegala, Dambulla, Harbarana, and Trincomalee in the eastern part of the island nation. This eastwest corridor was selected among a number of options since it offers the greatest potential for planned development along a specific alignment. The study is expected to identify which sectors have potential to develop in the future, and in which geographical area. It is also expected to find sectors where Sri Lanka can enter the global manufacturing supply chain and boost trade with India. Key findings of the study are expected to guide the Government to prioritize public investment in infrastructure, strengthen human capital development, and reform regulatory environment to support private sector activities
